New Things

Around this time of year I start paying attention to what God might be saying for the upcoming year.

At first it all happened accidentally. We were in our first year of overseas service and God impressed upon me Genesis 26:12,

"Now Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in the same year a hundredfold. And the LORD blessed him."

"This is your verse for the year," He told me.

And since then, nine years now, He has given me a verse for each coming year (except for 2007 when He told me that I needed to do the current verse over again because I hadn't gotten it, wasn't living it.)

So yesterday I was quickened in my spirit when I flipped through a magazine and sensed Him saying, "This is it."

It isn't a verse yet, I believe that will come, but it is a project.

Something new for 2011.

I have read through the Bible many times. The first time I read through it I did the chronological Bible and that is what He is prompting me to do again.

But here is what He wants me to do: Re-discover Him as He progressively revealed Himself from the beginning.

My focus for reading through the Bible in 2011 is to record His progressive revelation of Himself.

I am so excited!! I have been working on a bible study entitled "Re-Discovering God" and have been so hungry to do just that, dumping all the silly, false, and poisonous notions and beliefs I've held about Him.

Any body else up for reading through the Bible in 2011 Chronologically?

I love reading through chronologically! It's how I usually read cover to cover, but I'm not sure I'm doing it this year--or if I am, what my focus is to be...and I've felt there's to be a focus. Still waiting on God to see. =]

LOVE this! I have had the same prompting recently - to read the Bible chronologically, that is.

I started a challenge on my blog to read through the Bible in 2010. We started with over 35 participants. Now, I think we're down to about 15. It's been a really difficult year for me to try a challenge like this!! BUT I do already know that the next time I do it, I want to do it chronologically.

The schedule we've used this year is from 'Discipleship Journal' and includes 4 readings for each day from different sections of the Bible. However, it only has 25 scheduled "days" per month. This gives participants some grace if we fall behind. It's been a really good exercise.

I'm with you! I have a chronological bible sitting here near my computer and I have been wanting to read it ... count me in on the goal! Perhaps we can encourage one another on through the journey. God's blessings to you!

Oh wow! I am so excited for you. I did this 2 years ago and it changed my life. God revealed Himself to me in such an intimate way and I understood His love for ALL mankind and for me so much better as a result. xo

Hey sweet friend... I received the most delightful, grace-filled card today in the mail...

Thank you for sending it; for taking so much time to carefully personalize each verse and to laminate them for safe keeping. I will carry them tomorrow as I go to round #3. Thank you for holding out the Word of Life to me!

peace~elaine

PS: I haven't yet read the Bible through chronologically, but I understand from many people that this is a great way to study the Word.

I didn't know there was such a thing as the Chronological Bible, I have to say, I am curious.
The church we are attending is actually listening to the bible together as a church, it's called "28 minutes with Jesus". They gave us all audio of the New Testament and we start with Matthew and listen for 28 mins. Pretty neat, I can't wait to start.
