Beautiful Feet

It's time for a very special kind of giveaway here on MMM. But first, I have to tell you about the woman (and her feet) who inspired it.

Our first year on the field was a time of adjustment: a new culture, a new language, new foods, and our first baby. About 10 months after we arrived, we attended a meeting with others like us together with a large group of people from the states who came to serve us.

These folks watched our kids while we attended times of worship, something we are not able to participate in in this culture for security concerns. They led in worship and provided evening activities for the family. For moms with newborns, which I was, they arranged a time where they gave us pedicures.

Talk about the royal treatment!

Having someone wash my feet like that was very humbling. I have never gotten over the power and grace of that act. I determined then that I wanted to be a foot washer.

Isaiah 52:7 says, "How lovely on the mountains are the feet of one who brings good news, who announces peace..."

Consider you are far from home and your feet are tired and cracked from traveling the mountains. But look! Here comes one glad to see you! She comes alongside you, considers your feet "lovely," kneels before you, and washes your tired feet in love and gladness.

Well, God has a way of reaching those deep places inside and when my feet were washed, it was one of those times for me.

Likewise, I have had 2 or 3 people in blogland who have ministered to me deeply like this. These people, for some reason, have taken an interest in my feet so to speak. Goodness knows it is not because I am better than anyone else or relay a perfect message.

I happen to think it is simply because they are full of the love of Christ and they are fellow mountain travelers themselves. They know what it is like to get dusty and tired feet in running the message of peace.

So today, I'd like to honor one of them by pulling out a basin and inviting her to sit in this comfy (okay, imaginary!) recliner. Go ahead and put your feet into the warm, spiced and sizzling water, Elaine. As I pray and read scripture over you, receive the ministering touches of the Lord given through a sister.

"Lord, may Elaine go out with joy and be led forth with peace. May the mountains and the hills around her break into singing at the glad message she brings. May her presence represent Your glory and awe, her light shine hope for those who sit in darkness. May the enemies who afflict her come bowing to her, and all those who despised her bow themselves to the soles of her feet. May she be called the City of the Lord, the place where the Lord dwells. Bless her, keep her, and send her feet to even farther places, in the name of Christ."

Now here's the giveaway: I'm sending Elaine a pedicure package and I've got a second one to giveaway. To enter the giveaway, leave me a comment giving the URL of a blog/blogger that has "washed" your feet so to speak. I will enter you and your beautiful feet blogger into the giveaway, so you might want to let them know that you've nominated them!

Before you leave, how about praying a prayer of blessing over a blogger who has ministered to you? It may be just the touch they need to keep walking their mountain.

Your kindness is more than I deserve, and your prayer over me today has arrived at exactly the right moment ... a day when I feel the enemy's arrival at my door in certain measure.

To be thought of as "a city of the Lord ... the place where the Lord dwells"? Honestly, what a mantle to wear. I only pray for the grace and humility to wear him well.

And girl, if you saw my feet, you would know exactly how in need I am of some TLC along these lines! I've always hated my feet. Now, at least, they'll smell good.

You've washed them well this day. My heart is touched beyond words (still and yet I try)...

I'm new to your blog, so I don't know if I should enter into your give away, but I'd like to say thank you to Dani Joy at http://gospel2gijon.blogspot.com/ for her uplifting comments she always leaves on my blog. She works hard as a mother of three boys on the mission field in Spain. Her blog is very encouraging and God centered. I'd love to send her a virtual foot washing!

I am a friend of Elaine's, and I just stopped by to read this tribute.

Isaiah 52:7 is so fitting for Elaine. She is a proclaimer of peace as she walks in step with her King.

She has so often "washed my feet". Praying that she "who refreshes others will (herself) be refreshed." Proverbs 11:25

May the Lord bless you for blessing others,
Joy

This is such a great idea! I have thought about feet washing in Bible times but not how it might be applied so literally now. I love it! May we all be feet washers. I know I have a long way to go, but a dear friend of mine is that. She serves so well.

Thanks Hiedi for thinking of this! It´s a great reminder for us to serve others.

It´s such a blessing to know Christian Moms doing the same as you.
You too, Heidi! You have been a dear encourager for me! May you have a quick and mostly painless labor. May God calm all your fears. Big hugs!

I want to nominate Kristina. She has a couple blogs. Her family blog started as a journey of surviving her daughter's extremely premature birth (http://miraclebabyanastasia.com/). But I know her more as a friend and fellow reviewer with Christian Children's Book Review (www.CCBReview.blogspot.com). She's fantastic and, even though we've never actually met, she has been a servant to me in so many ways: as a mentor, a friend, a prayer partner, a sanity-keeper, an encourager. I can't wait until the day I finally get to meet her face to face!

I couldn't agree more with what you said about Elaine. I just "met" her a few weeks ago, and she has already washed my feet, too!

There are so many who have blessed me - I hate to start mentioning names. The Lord has filled me and encouraged me and blessed me through blogging friends and my life (and feet) are the better for each one of them - including you!

Hi Heidi, Not sure if you will post it or not but that´s ok... wanted to pass the love on to you anyway. ;) There are two awards waiting for you at my blog.

Wow! What a great giveaway! And what a special prayer over Elaine! I would like to nominate my fellow friend and co-worker, Keri. She is an amazing young woman who serves so faithfully in the communities with the children and local volunteers. She deserves a feet washing!

That was a really beautiful post. Thank you! And I want to just say that yours is the blog (and the comments on my blog) that has washed my feet. I really appreciate your messages--they always seem to be exactly what I need when I need them. Thanks!
